Grand Duchesses Tatiana and Anastasia and the black French bulldog Ortino in captivity at Tsarskoe Selo in the spring of 1917. Ortino was a gift from Dmitri Malama, an officer of the Imperial Russian Cavalry. Tatya was fond of him, accepted the pet, wrote her mother a letter explaining why she had to keep him. Ortino went with the family to their end.
